Coffee (unsweetened), is a good thing.
With the current research evidence, coffee has multiple health benefits for people, and we’ve written articles specifically to answer your questions about coffee.
But there are always more questions than articles, and recently we’ve been getting a lot of messages in the background saying: I’ve heard that coffee can help you lose weight, is it reliable?
With questions, we went to the major platforms and searched, found that “coffee weight loss” related to the claims and products, there are really a lot.
Some product advertisements and science fiction also cited many studies to stand up for coffee weight loss, the effect of blowing the gods.
Today, we will take a plate, coffee, a new generation of weight loss myth, in the end is not the IQ tax?
Real points.
Coffee boosts metabolism? It’s a beautiful idea.
The actual weight loss effects of coffee are too small

Does coffee boost your metabolism? It’s a beautiful idea.
A mainstream theory about how coffee works for weight loss is that “coffee can increase metabolism, thereby increasing energy consumption”.
This is not a myth, but it comes from academic research into the effects of caffeine at the end of the last century and the beginning of this century.
The caffeine in coffee appears to increase basal metabolism by excitating adenosine receptors in skeletal muscle and the central nervous system [2], and may increase heat production a bit at the same time [3].
The academic community has been thrilled by this, and studies of all kinds are emerging; after all, it’s so tempting to burn calories without dieting or exercising.
The idea is good, but the reality is not so good.
The popular “boost your metabolism, increase your energy expenditure” theory has a serious bugbear.
It didn’t say how much it would improve!
Consume 1 kcal more, consume 100 kcal more, consume 500 kcal more, although they are called “more”, but for weight loss is a completely different concept.
Fortunately, a group of inquisitive and rigorous scientists have done a more in-depth study.
In an early study with a small sample, it was found that even when a single dose of caffeine was increased to 400 mg – a dose at which many people may begin to experience uncomfortable side effects such as heart palpitations – the body’s energy consumption increased by a mere 40 kcal within three hours of ingestion.
In the experiment, even 400 mg of caffeine consumed, the extra calories consumed by the body in 3 hours is equivalent to a little more than half an egg!
40 kilocalories, equivalent to only 2% of a normal person’s total energy intake throughout the day, is a drop in the bucket for the weight loss business.
It’s just a drop in the bucket for a big weight loss business, not to mention that the average person can’t even drink that much caffeine on a regular basis.
The actual weight loss effect of coffee is too small.
At this point, some people may say, there are some studies that show that coffee is effective for weight loss, so why do you single out the article as useless?
Yes, it’s true that the quality of evidence in small sample studies is low, and there are often all sorts of differences between people, and one piece of literature doesn’t tell us much.
But that’s okay, after a while of hundreds of scholars of all stripes, there will continue to be people doing higher quality studies and drawing conclusions that are closer to the real effects of caffeine.
A systematic review published in 2019 summarized 13 randomized controlled trials related to caffeine weight loss published in 2017 and earlier [4], and the results show that the effects of …… caffeine on weight loss are really hard to explain.
People who consistently consumed different doses of caffeine lost, on average, just under six-two more pounds than those who didn’t, and that was still a feat achieved by sticking with it for as long as a month and a half to even nine months.
To put this in perspective, the median of the study is that people who drank 750 ml of coffee per day (240 mg of total caffeine) for three months (12 weeks) lost 0.29 kg.
The results may be even worse if you drink less and for a shorter period of time, dear.
The above basically reflects the current state of research on coffee dieting in academic circles.
How to say it, can not say that the coffee diet is useless, but this usefulness is really very, very too small.
Even if you eat less a day a few bites, more walking, weight loss effect can be better than it.
As for the online posts claim, drink black coffee can “three days thin ten pounds” “half a month thin eight pounds”, may be …… scale bad it.
But a lot of times, scientists have not argued out in the end whether or not to use, some unreliable business began to put “new products” first shelves to promote money to say, to catch the wind, out of context is also a common phenomenon.
Rumors and pit people’s products, often so born.
Some time ago in a short video platform, there are a lot of friends were pitted —.
Of course there will be those on the internet who question whether it’s the wrong time to drink coffee. I’ve heard that the effect is only noticeable if you drink coffee before exercising.
Well …… does currently have some studies showing that if you take caffeine before exercise, you may be able to reduce fatigue to some extent, increase endurance, and thus increase energy expenditure – but the evidence is far from solid.
As for the additional effect on weight loss, there’s even less real evidence. And if it doesn’t work, the scientists aren’t responsible.
Some Weight Loss Coffee Products, Possible Health Risks
Maybe someone is not buying ordinary coffee, but specifically for weight loss coffee products, thought it should be reliable, right?
We did a casual search and there are a number of messy coffee diet products on the market.
The truth is that they don’t help, and certain products even have health risks.
- add L-carnitine diet coffee
L-carnitine is nothing new. It’s been through the same process of “found to work – questioned – disproved” by scientists.
A freshly released meta-analysis in 2020 suggested that L-carnitine’s weight-loss effects, while modest, were essentially nil after rounding up the results [5].
All in all, L-carnitine and caffeine are facing a similar situation, a pair of brothers and sisters in an awkward position in the field of weight loss, and so they came together in weight loss products ……
- Some products even have diet pills secretly added to them.
Some very hot net red weight loss coffee, especially through the purchase of irregular channels, safety is really worrying.
There have been reports that a woman who drank the online coffee to buy weight loss after the physical discomfort, and then the coffee was found in our country’s banned drug ingredients “sibutramine”.
Sibutramine has the role of appetite suppression and metabolism enhancement, but it has great side effects, will increase the risk of heart disease, and even fatal in serious cases. China has issued a special warning and banned the production, sale and use of sibutramine in China.
Don’t buy the so-called “weight loss coffee” through informal channels, especially in the name of some original imports, the general public is also difficult to distinguish in the end what ingredients have been added.
It’s already painful to hurt your wallet, but it’s even worse to hurt your body.
Finally, to conclude, the effectiveness of coffee to lose weight can not be said to be completely without, but also do not hold too much hope. It’s really too difficult to rely on coffee to lose weight successfully.
But optimistically, the results of the current study also prove that drinking coffee (again, no sugar, no cream, no partner) will at least not make you fat.
Moreover, coffee is generally a healthier drink, and its diuretic effect can also reduce edema to some extent.
A cup of coffee in the morning might make you look in better shape.
