Blinken: U.S. to pay more than $200 million in WHO dues at the end of the month

Voice of America, Feb. 17 – Secretary of State John Blinken told the U.N. Security Council Feb. 17 that the United States will pay more than $200 million in dues to the World health Organization by the end of the month, “a critical step in meeting the financial obligations of WHO members. Blinken also said the WHO’s investigation into the origin of the new coronavirus must be independent, based on science and facts, and free of interference.

The U.K. proposed Feb. 17 that the U.N. Security Council adopt a cease-fire resolution in order to move forward with vaccination against the new coronavirus. The proposal is thought to test the cooperation between the new Biden administration and the Chinese government at the UN.
