Hong Kong’s status as an international financial center is removed ?

In the second paragraph of the latest Doing Business guidelines published by the British Foreign Office, it is highlighted that the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law has undermined basic human rights and freedoms in Hong Kong. The police have also used the law to arrest protesters and media owners. Under the NSA, Hong Kong may experience a chilling effect and self-censorship.

In the Feb. 16 update of the Doing Business guidelines, the description of Hong Kong as an international financial center was removed from the paragraph on Hong Kong’s economy and replaced with a description of Hong Kong as a highly competitive global business hub.

The new guidelines also mention that there is prima facie evidence that some private sector employees have been pressured by the Chinese Communist authorities for political reasons and have even participated in demonstrations.
