Boycott Beijing Winter Olympics U.S. lawmakers list four evils of Chinese Communist Party

As the countdown to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics begins, nearly 200 rights groups around the world are calling for a boycott. Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Waltz of Florida also introduced a resolution on February 15, listing four major evils of the Chinese Communist Party and calling for a U.S. boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics and a change in the host city.

On February 15, Republican Congressman Waltz introduced a resolution calling on the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) to boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics and change the host city.

The resolution states that the Chinese Communist Party has done many heinous things in the past year and that Beijing’s eligibility to host the Winter Olympics should be revoked. The resolution emphasizes that while the Olympics are an international cultural event, independent of political, ideological and diplomatic differences, the CCP is a country that has promoted organized atrocities in Xinjiang, trampled on civil liberties in Hong Kong and persecuted freedom of worship.

The resolution lists four major abuses of human rights by the CCP.

One, the mass detention and genocide of Uighurs and other Muslim minorities in Xinjiang.

Second, the destruction of democratic rights and the “one country, two systems” structure in Hong Kong.

Third, the CCP’s targeting and control of domestic religious activities.

Fourth, failure to report the outbreak of the CCP virus (Wuhan pneumonia) to the World health Organization and suppression of the Wuhan doctors’ outbreak.

The resolution thus calls on the U.S. Olympic Committee to change the host city for the Winter Olympics.

In an article in the Washington Examiner, Watts said that the former U.S. Secretary of State officially declared that Muslims in Xinjiang had been subjected to “genocide” by the Chinese Communist Party before he left office, and his successor, Secretary of State Boo, agreed. Therefore, the Chinese Communist Party should be banned from enjoying the economic benefits and free publicity that come with hosting the Olympics.

Starting in 2020, international human rights organizations, parliamentarians and officials from many countries have called for a boycott of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, which are scheduled to begin on February 4, 2022.

An international coalition of 180 rights groups, including the World Uighur Congress and the International Tibetan Network, issued a joint open letter on February 3 calling on global leaders to boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics to ensure that the Chinese Communist Party does not use the games to fuel its human rights abuses and crackdowns on dissidents.

The letter said that since Beijing won the bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics in 2015, the Chinese Communist Party has been relentless in its crackdown on basic human rights and freedoms. For example, more than 1,000 Tibetan political prisoners have faced torture and death; between 1.8 million and 3 million Uighurs have been imprisoned in “concentration camps”; and thousands of Hong Kong people have been arrested for expressing their political demands.

The open letter accuses the IOC of refusing to act in the face of clear evidence of genocide and deteriorating human rights conditions in China.
