Gansu youth Zhang Pancheng arrested again by police for online video

Zhang Pancheng, a young man from Gansu province who has just been released from prison for less than nine months, was taken away by police for posting a video online expressing his feelings, and his current whereabouts are unknown, according to rights.org on Monday (Feb. 15).

In a video of Zhang Pancheng circulating online, he said, “The tyrant is judging us with swords and sticks because he is afraid of freedom as much as he is afraid of fire, and he is afraid that once we find freedom, his throne will shake and he will suffer. Hold up your heads, brothers, and do not mourn, for these chains are the medals of our pride!”

Zhang Pancheng said the video was recorded at his Home in a small mountain village in Gansu Province, and at the end he said passionately, “The bitter winter will finally pass, and spring will soon come!”

It is reported that Zhang Pancheng was born in 1995, a native of Heshui County, Gansu Province, with the screen name “Zimuyuoxi”. 2018, he had expressed in the video that he disagreed with the Chinese government sending $60 billion to (foreign) people without legal procedures, demanding freedom of expression, solidarity with the disappeared Dong Yaoqiong, Huayong, Jiashi workers and the former Northern University students Yue Xin and the millions of compatriots in Xinjiang who are in the “Xinjiang Re-Education Study Class”.

On December 18, 2018, he was formally arrested by the Beijing police on suspicion of “provoking and provoking trouble”; on April 4, 2020, he was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison by the Beijing Xicheng District Court in the first instance for “provoking and provoking trouble”; on May 20, 2020, he was released after completing his sentence.
