The epidemic in France is once again urgent 300 confirmed cases of the South African-Brazilian variant in the Moselle department

The situation of the New coronavirus outbreak in France is once again worrying, with 300 confirmed cases of the South African and Brazilian variants of the virus detected in only 4 days in the Moselle department. The province has already found 200 cases of both variants in the previous days. The Minister of health, Olivier Véran, is not afraid to take the situation lightly and will leave for the region this Friday.

The French health minister said he will visit the site this Friday and plans to consult with the prefect and local civil representatives. The health minister showed particular concern about this latest development in France’s New crown outbreak because of the “worrying situation” in Moselle, where 300 cases of the South African and Brazilian variants have been detected in just four days. The province had already discovered 200 cases of this variant of the virus in the previous days.

More worryingly, Weyland warned, “it is unlikely that all the cases in Moselle are linked to clusters of infections, to travel abroad or to infections that have been in contact with people who have traveled abroad.” He stressed that authorities do not yet know how to explain the increase in the number of such infections, which could indicate the beginning of uncontrolled spread of the Variant virus.

In addition, Weyland, in a press conference, divided these Variant viruses into two categories. First, the British virus, which is “more infectious,” but which cannot outcompete current vaccines. The British variant of the virus now accounts for 20 to 25 percent of infections, compared with 15 percent last week.

For another, the South African and Brazilian variants, even though they are less widespread, are still of particular concern to the government. “They are still more contagious, and they can lead to reinfection in people who have had the virus before. And the viruses have managed to bypass human immunity and are not as sensitive to vaccines.”

Referring to the virus that caused the pandemic in Mayotte, a French overseas department, Weyland noted that findings from 17,000 virus-positive test samples showed that “the proportion of confirmed cases of the Brazilian and South African variants of the virus has increased. It is about 4 to 5 percent nationwide.”

The two variant viruses have had less impact on other provinces than in Moselle. After Moselle, one of the most affected areas is Dordogne, with about 40 cases of the variant virus.

Weyland also quickly dropped the possibility of imposing blockade measures, reiterating that the government would do everything possible to avoid such measures.
