The Nikkei Asia, citing sources familiar with the matter, pointed out that Apple and TSMC this cooperation in the development of ultra-advanced display technology for micro organic light-emitting diode (micro OLED) display technology, the goal is to apply the technology in augmented reality (AR) devices.
It is reported that Apple has chosen to cooperate with TSMC in research and development because Apple’s micro OLED display is not the same as LCD or OLED production in the glass substrate, but directly built onto the wafer production to make the display thinner, smaller and low power consumption, and for wearable AR devices.
Another source also pointed out that the above-mentioned cooperation project before the trial production stage, is expected to take several years to achieve mass production.
