U.S. House of Representatives Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Nancy Pelosi) in the January 6 unrest in Congress, the House of Representatives proposed to urgently set up metal detectors at the entrance to avoid members carrying weapons into the House, the Democrats held a majority vote in the House of Representatives to pass this internal rules, and set penalties, but Pelosi was subsequently caught leading violations, bypassing security checks into the House of Representatives, Republicans urged her to pay the fine was The Republicans urged her to pay the fine and refused!
On February 4, 2 Republican lawmakers were fined $5,000 each, and House Republicans asked security officials to fine Pelosi for allegedly bypassing metal detectors when she entered Congress, in violation of her own rules.
The house rules were proposed by Pelosi herself, and the House previously voted 216 to 210 to approve the new rules. Following the Jan. 6 unrest, metal detectors were installed on the floor at every entrance to Capitol Hill and fines were issued for deliberate bypassing. The fine will be $5,000 for the first offense and $10,000 for each subsequent violation. If a legislator does not pay within 90 days, it will be deducted from his or her salary.
Pelosi had said at the Time that anyone who bypasses the new security measures “is refusing to follow basic precautions and disrespecting the heroes who maintain security.” She also criticized many House Republicans for being “disrespectful” to Capitol Police, speaking ill of them, and refusing to follow basic precautions to ensure the safety of members of Congress, including lawmakers and police officers.
I didn’t expect Pelosi to seem to be strict with others, but not to follow the rules herself. Multiple Republican House members, in a letter to House security officers, said that at approximately 9:59 a.m. on Feb. 5, “multiple members witnessed the Speaker of the House enter the House chamber without completing security screening.”
Although Republicans have urged Pelosi to pay the fine, she has so far played deaf and dumb and ignored it. In response to Pelosi’s violation, Capitol Security Officer Timothy Blodgett said in a statement to The Hill that he had not received a complaint from Capitol Police about the incident.
