U.S. media reported Feb. 6 that federal documents indicate that U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Labor Party member representing Minnesota, paid her husband’s consulting firm $2.9 million in campaign expenses during the 2020 election cycle, representing 78 percent of the consulting firm’s total annual revenue.
U.S. media outlet The Gateway Pundit said it must be nice to be a leftist and be able to leave the project to the Family and no one will conduct an investigation.
According to The Washington Free Beacon, Somali-born Rep. Omar’s husband Tim Mynett and his partner Will Hailer started a consulting firm in Washington, D.C., called the E Street Group. The firm has taken in $3.7 million in revenue from various political action committees in the 2020 presidential election cycle.
Congressman Omar’s campaign was by far the largest moneymaker for The E Street Group, writing 146 checks and paying out a total of $2.9 million, or 78 percent of The E Street Group’s revenue. The second largest source of cash for The E Street Group was Omar’s Indian-origin mentor, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington state, whose campaign provided The E Street Group with $194,000. The campaigns of two minority leftist congresswomen provide 85 percent of this E Street Group’s annual revenue.
The $2.9 million that Rep. Omar paid to The E Street Group accounted for a significant portion of her own campaign spending. Omar’s campaign committee’s total spending was $5.2 million, and the $2.9 million she transferred to her husband’s company accounted for 56 percent of operating costs, for advertising, mailings, consulting and travel.
In an interview with the Washington Free Beacon last July, Omar defended her actions, and in September argued to the New York Times that it was a “foolish thing” to get rid of a company that was already in good hands.
However, immediately after making the final payment to the E Street Group in early November, Omar claimed that she cut ties with her husband’s company after facing strong opposition.
In an email sent to supporters, Omar wrote, “We have decided to terminate our contract with Tim and Will. This is despite the fact that many of our close supporters know these two men very well and have suggested that we continue with their contracts. I want to make sure that anyone who has supported our campaign with Time or money will think that there is nothing wrong with this company.”
The WebGate pundit sarcastically said that $2.9 million worth of “no problem.” That’s hilarious!
Also according to the Washington Free Beacon, the E Street Group not only received millions of dollars from Omar’s campaign, but also received more than $500,000 in federal coronavirus relief money.
