Breitbart News reported Friday that Time Magazine published the article “‘Secret,’ ‘Well-Funded Cabal’ Working to ‘Protect’ 2020 Election
In the story, Breitbart News Network said Time Magazine published a detailed description of what it called a “conspiracy” between “left-wing activists and business titans” to create a “special shadow effort” to “protect” the 2020 presidential election.
Molly Ball’s article, entitled “The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign to Save the 2020 Election,” describes the effort as a ‘heroic’ effort to preserve free and fair elections and fend off anticipated fraud allegations by President Donald Trump.
However, Bauer’s description also fits what she calls a “paranoid” view of the effort to make it difficult for Trump to win:.
” The handshake between business and labor is just one component of a vast, cross-party campaign to protect elections – an extraordinary shadow effort, not to win votes, but to ensure that they are free and fair, credible and free of corruption. For more than a year, a loosely organized coalition of operatives scrambled to shore up America’s institutions as they came under simultaneous attack by a relentless pandemic and an authoritarian-leaning president. While much of this activity occurred on the left, it was unrelated to the Biden campaign and crossed ideological lines, with important contributions from nonpartisan and conservative actors.

Their work touched on all aspects of the election. They pushed states to change their voting systems and laws, and helped secure hundreds of millions of dollars in public and private funding. They fought off voter suppression lawsuits, recruited large numbers of poll workers, and got millions of people to vote by mail for the first time. They successfully pressured social media companies to take a tougher stance on disinformation and used data-driven tactics to counter viral smears. They executed a national public awareness campaign to help Americans understand how the vote count would unfold over days or weeks, preventing Trump’s conspiracy theories and false claims of victory from gaining more support. After Election Day, they monitored every pressure point to ensure Trump could not overturn the results.

That’s why participants want the secret history of the 2020 election to be told, even though it sounds like a paranoid fever dream – a well-funded cabal of powerful people, across industries and ideologies, working together behind the scenes to influence perceptions, change rules and laws, direct media coverage and control the flow of information. They’re not rigging elections, they’re strengthening them. “
Bauer describes the participants in the scheme as “democracy activists. It is led by Michael Podhorzer, “senior advisor to the president of the AFL-CIO,” which is is one of the most powerful unions in the United States, aligned with the Democratic Party.
Bauer noted:
“From his apartment in suburban Washington, D.C., Podhoretzer gets to work on his laptop at his kitchen table with his network of contacts throughout the progressive world: the labor movement; institutional leftists like Planned Parenthood and Greenpeace …. racial justice activists and others, holding continuous Zoom meetings for hours each day. “
Before April, she notes, Podhoretzer hosted two-and-a-half-hour Zoom sessions with other participants in the project, who pushed Congress to fund mail-in ballots and convinced Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to “election administration funding.” (As Breitbart News warns, Zuckerberg’s contributions look more like a Get Out the Vote effort by Democrats, and are primarily aimed at heavily Democratic counties in key battleground states.
The campaign also used legal maneuvers to change the voting process during the COVID (Communist Party of China virus) pandemic, leading to a “revolution” in vote-by-mail voting.” Only a quarter of voters voted the traditional way – in person on Election Day,” Bauer noted.
The group also used a “no-name secret program” to combat “disinformation.” Their approach is to “pressure platforms to enforce their rules, both to remove content or accounts that spread false information.” Bauer did not mention the New York Post story about Hunter Biden’s laptop, but tech companies, mainstream media and former intelligence officials jumped up and down in October, calling the laptop potential Russian “disinformation” and suppressing it. Twitter blocked the link to the story and also locked the New York Post’s account for more than two weeks. The story was later proven true, Hunter Biden announced after the election – and he is under investigation by the FBI.
The group also decided to take advantage of the violent riots that spread across the country after George Floyd’s death in May and took steps to “use its momentum for the election without allowing it to be pulled by politicians.”
Bauer reported that near the end of the election, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce put aside old disputes and joined with the AFL-CIO to build a coalition that rejected allegations of election fraud. Some Republicans also assisted in that effort, Bauer noted.
As Breitbart News reported at the time, if Trump claimed victory in a close election, there would be a left-wing movement nationwide to unleash more unrest. Bauer’s report confirmed that “shadow” efforts are coordinating those efforts. She added that the “National Mobilization Network” was told to “stand down” after it appeared that Biden would be the winner.
Later, she said, Podhoretzer’s network decided to make sure there were few counter-protesters at the Jan. 6 “Stop Stealing” demonstration in Washington, D.C., making sure to blame Trump alone for what happened.
