Pence comeback former adviser: will actively participate in the 2022 election

For the past two weeks, Mike Pence has stayed away from the political scene. Now, the former U.S. vice president is making a cautious comeback, his close aides have revealed.

Pence announced on Thursday (Feb. 4) that he had joined the Heritage Foundation as a distinguished fellow and on Friday announced a partnership with the Young America’s Foundation. The announcement comes a day after the launch of the former vice presidential transition office on Wednesday.

The Heritage Foundation is one of the oldest and most influential think tanks among conservatives. The Young America’s Foundation, on the other hand, is a prominent conservative youth organization with a half-century history.

Fox News reports that the former vice president is expected to make more announcements related to partnerships with other prominent conservative organizations in the coming days, and may launch a nonprofit organization in the coming weeks aimed at raising money for conservative causes.

Pence is considered to be in line to be one of the Republican presidential nominees in 2024. Currently, Republicans are aiming to win back the House and Senate majorities in the 2022 midterm elections.

Marc Short, a deeply trusted Pence aide and adviser, has served as the then-vice president’s chief of staff for the past two years. He told Fox News that Pence will likely be “very active” in helping his fellow Republicans on the campaign trail over the next two years.

Pence is no stranger to political campaigning. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2000 and won re-election five times before being elected to the Indiana governor’s race in 2012.

In the summer of 2016, he joined the Republican national campaign as Donald Trump‘s (R-Texas) sidekick. Pence has been tirelessly campaigning for Republican candidates in the 2018 midterm elections and last year’s elections, as well as in the Georgia Senate’s two-month-long runoff campaign that recently ended.

Short said they have been having initial conversations with House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and his team about how Pence can play a role in the future, as well as with the Republican Governors Association (RGA).
