H5N8 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in Lianyungang

On February 5, the press office of the Ministry of Agriculture and rural Affairs of the CPC said that an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds of subtype H5N8 occurred in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province.

According to the release, the CPC Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center reported that a wild bird H5N8 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak occurred in the scenic area of Yuntai Mountain in Lianyungang City, as confirmed by the National Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza. The Epidemic site is inhabited by about 647 wild birds, with 17 illnesses and 17 deaths.

Since November last year, wildfowl H5N8 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks have occurred in Shanxi Province, Shandong Province and Beijing.

On February 1 this year, a wild swan H5N8 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak occurred in the Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park in Haidian District, Beijing. The outbreak site was inhabited by 15 wild birds, with 3 onset and 3 deaths.

On January 19, an outbreak of wild swan H5N8 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred in the management station of Dawenliu, Yellow River Delta Nature Reserve, Dongying City, Shandong Province. The epidemic site was inhabited by 249 wild birds, with 35 illnesses and 35 deaths.

On November 26, 2020, an outbreak of wild swan H5N8 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred in the Dawenliu Scenic Area in Sanwan, Pinglu County, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province. The area was inhabited by more than 4,000 wild swans, with 2 onset and 2 deaths.
