Graham: Democrats also worried about botched impeachment

Senior Republican U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC)

In response to the Senate impeachment hearings on February 8, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, recently urged Democratic senators to end the impeachment of Trump as soon as possible. He said some Democrats also want to call off the impeachment “because they themselves are concerned that this impeachment will be bungled.”

In a Feb. 1 interview with FoxNews.com, Graham said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) initiated a second impeachment of Trump that did not go through the legal process at all.

He said, “The second impeachment of Trump is untested, and they initiated this impeachment in the House of Representatives. They initiated this impeachment in the House of Representatives in Pelosi, in less than 50 hours. There was not a single lawyer and not a single eyewitness in the entire process.”

The Democrat-controlled House announced Trump’s impeachment on Jan. 14, 232-197, with 10 Republican House members voicing support for impeachment.

Graham said Democrats may have insisted on sponsoring the impeachment out of fear of angering the radical left wing of the party. He said, “There’s a segment of Democrats who are banking on Biden to get Chuck Schumer to call off this impeachment because they know it’s going to be botched.”

He also reminded his fellow Democrats, “If you try to get witnesses to the impeachment, you’re going to screw this up. Stop looking for witnesses and let’s get this ugly show sung quickly.”

He expressed regret that Biden did not prevent this impeachment from happening. He said, “Every Republican thinks this House impeachment is an affront to the former president and that the impeachment process did not go through the normal legal process.”

He also described how Republican senators mostly believe that this impeachment of President Trump is unconstitutional. Although he was not clear whether Republican senators will dismiss this impeachment on February 8, as it will require the support of 51 Republican senators to be able to dismiss this impeachment, while five Republican senators supported the impeachment process in the February 3 vote.
