Canada Identifies Proud Boys as a Terrorist Group, White House Considers Following Up

The Associated Press news agency reported on Feb. 3 that Canada, a neighbor of the United States, officially recognized the Proud Boys as a terrorist organization on Feb. 3, despite the fact that they have never organized in Canada.

According to Reuters, “Proud Boys” founder McInnes (Gavin McInnes) is a Canadian, currently living in the United States, the organization’s current leader Enrique Tarrio (Enrique Tarrio), years ago was the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) undercover, through informants He helped capture more than a dozen criminals in exchange for reduced sentences.

Nelson Wiseman, a political science professor at the University of Toronto, said Trudeau’s Liberal government is trying to link the Pride Boys to the anti-Trump sentiment prevalent in Canada.

“The Pride Boys have been a target of attack since they were endorsed by Trump. If Trump had won the election, I’m sure the Pride Boys would not be so persecuted by the left.” Weissman said, “Right-wing extremism exists in Canada, but in far smaller numbers than in the United States.”

According to MarketWatch, during a White House press briefing on Wednesday, a reporter asked about Canada’s decision to designate the Proud Boys as terrorists, and White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the Biden administration’s national security team is “reviewing the violence and the activities of this kind of group that involves the entire country,” Psaki told reporters, “and I hope that review will be concluded before any decision is made.”
