Reservoirs dried up, people have difficulties in drinking water, the authorities launched a blue alert for water drought. The worst-hit Sanmen County, Taizhou City, recently suspended swimming and car washing. The owner of a local car wash business told “Voice of Hope” today (Feb. 1) that he has suffered heavy losses and is worried about his inability to pay his mortgage.
Land media reported today that, according to the Zhejiang Provincial Emergency Management Department, the direct cause of Zhejiang’s drought this winter is meteorological anomalies: from late September last year to January 20 this year, the weather in Zhejiang Province continued to be sunny and rainy, with an average precipitation of only 96 mm in the province, more than 60% less than the same period of the year. On January 15, Zhejiang Province announced the launch of the blue warning of water drought.
At present, the main water source of 228 single villages (joint villages) in Tiantai County, Taizhou City is ponds, reservoirs or ditches, 69 of which are difficult to use; the water source of Tongkeng Creek is close to drying up, and the water plant in Baihe Town cannot supply water normally, which affects more than 50,000 people in the town.
Sun Zhijun, deputy director of the Flood Control and Drought Control Command Office in Sanmen County, Taizhou City, told Land Media that typhoons are a local meteorological disaster that needs to be defended against every summer, but typhoons also bring rainfall and replenish reservoir water. Since the second half of last year, Sanmen has experienced very few typhoons and almost no short duration heavy rainfall.
A resident of Sanmen County told this reporter that Sanmen County is also about to stop the water, “These days I heard that the water will be stopped, the reservoir water is not available. How do you do when the water stops, buy mineral water to drink, drink always drink, bath not wash, but also only this way.”
Recently, Sanmen County government issued an emergency notice, since January 25, the suspension of the county’s swimming, car wash, water entertainment venues and other high water consumption service industry water supply.

Mr. Wu said the car wash is the only economic source of his Family, “referring to it to eat it, this thing to get out, mortgage payments do not go out, on the old and the young.”
According to the Chinese Communist Party official media, in Wenzhou, the drought affected more than 750 villages. The local water conservancy department introduced that the most serious water shortage is in the central and western part of Ruian, northern Yongjia mountainous single-village water supply villages, some island areas also need boat transport water emergency.
The southern part of Yongjia County, Yueqing City, Wenzhou Nanxi River water supply, some sections of the river cut off and stream beach exposed in large areas, some points of the flow is close to the lowest in history. Yongjia County Water Group said that due to the Nanxi River water supply has dropped significantly, since January 4, the water supply area to implement pressure reduction water supply.
Zhejiang Provincial Water Resources Department expects that from January to March this year, the rainfall in the relevant areas of Zhejiang will still be less than in previous years, the situation of winter and spring drought may continue, and the problem of continuous drought in agriculture needs to be prevented in advance.
