With just days to go before former U.S. President Donald Trump‘s impeachment trial, five lawyers from Trump’s defense legal team abruptly left, including his lead defense attorney Butch Bowers.
The U.S. Senate is expected to launch the impeachment trial on Feb. 8. The Politico website reported Saturday night (Jan. 30) that two lead lawyers and three lawyers from the Trump impeachment team had left the team, three people familiar with the matter confirmed the news that night.
Bowles, from South Carolina, was said to have been expected to take the lead defense role in the Senate impeachment trial, but has now left. Another South Carolina lawyer, Deborah Barbier, also left.
CNN reported that sources familiar with the matter told the outlet that Trump wanted the lawyers to argue that there was massive election fraud in the 2020 U.S. election and that he was stolen from the election; instead, the lawyers focused on the legality of convicting an outgoing president. Trump dismissed their discussion of related issues.
Sources said the decisions were consensual and that the Trump team would soon announce a new candidate. Sure enough, on Sunday (31) Trump’s spokesman announced that lawyers David Schoen and Bruce Castor will lead the Trump defense team. Trump said the two lawyers have “significant trial experience in high-profile cases.

According to protrumpnews, Boston College Law School, Columbia University Law School, Washington& Lee University, are all facing pressure from wealthy Democratic alumni to revoke Schein and Custer’s law degrees.
The Clerk of the Supreme Court of the U.S. has also received requests to remove Schoen and Kuster from the Supreme Court ba.
The Scottish Rite is also facing requests to remove Custer, a 33rd degree Mason, from the Supreme Court.
The Alabama Civil Liberties Union and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference are both under pressure to remove Schein from office.

The first legal papers for the impeachment trial are due Tuesday, and the trial is expected to officially begin the week of Feb. 8.
Trump’s spokesman, Jason Miller, did not comment directly on the lawyers’ departure, but said the Democrats’ effort to impeach an outgoing president is completely unconstitutional and bad for the country.
