Nguyen Phu Trong became the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the third time Hanoi outbreak of the epidemic 13 Congress closed early

The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) held the 1st plenary session of the 13th Central Committee on Sunday (31), and Nguyen Phu Trong, 77, was reappointed as General Secretary of the CPV for the next five years, his third term in the post.

The official Vietnamese media Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Vietnam Express reported that the 1st Plenary Session of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam was held on Sunday (31) to elect the new members of the Central Political Bureau, General Secretary, Secretary of the Central Secretariat, members and directors of the Central Inspection Commission.

The report said Nguyen Phu Trong was re-elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee at the meeting. Nguyen Phu Trong first became the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 2011 and was re-elected in 2016, and in October 2018 Nguyen Phu Trong became the president of Vietnam.

Nguyen Phu Trong is a “special case” of the 13th Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). The CPV party constitution stipulates that a person must retire at the age of 60, but the 77-year-old Nguyen Phu Trong was still elected to the 13th Central Committee on Saturday (30).

Born in 1944 in Dong Anh District, Hanoi, Nguyen joined the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1967 and holds a doctorate in political science and a bachelor’s degree in literature. He is also currently secretary of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and head of the CPV Central Steering Committee against Corruption.

Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message, praising Nguyen Phu Trong for his achievements in leading Vietnam, saying that “China and Vietnam are socialist and friendly neighbors” and “a community of Destiny with strategic significance. However, China and Vietnam have a long history of disputes, and there have been conflicts over the South China Sea so far.

The 13th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) opened last Monday (25), during which a new wave of the New Guan (Chinese Communist virus) Epidemic broke out in Vietnam, the CPV 13th Congress, which was scheduled to end on February 2, ended a day earlier, and a press conference will be held at its closing on Monday (1).
