Mexican tycoon, major shareholder of New Times, tested positive and was discharged from the hospital to recover at home

Mexico news, Carlos Slim, 81, the Mexican billionaire and majority shareholder of New Times, was hospitalized for a positive coronavirus (CCA virus). According to his Family, he has left the hospital and is recovering at Home.

Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim was discharged from the hospital on January 28, sources quoted by AFP said on January 30. According to his family, he is in good health.

The businessman’s son Carlos Slim Domit announced on Twitter Monday that his father tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19). His son added that his father is in good health and after more than a week of mild symptoms, the situation is moving in a very favorable direction.”

Carlos Slim, through his foundation, finances a vaccine developed by AstraZeneca Laboratories in the UK and Oxford University that needles anti-coronavirus Covid-19. The portion of this vaccine that supplies Latin America is produced in Argentina and has begun packaging in Mexico.

According to Wikipedia, Carlos Slim is listed by Forbes magazine as the richest man in Latin America, with an estimated fortune of $58.5 billion, ranking 21st in the world wealth list. His America Movil is the leading telephone company in the Latin American market, and is also present in Europe, Austria and the United States.

Carlos Slim became the second-largest shareholder of The New York Times in February 2008 and invested a further $250 million in 2009, acquiring approximately 16 million divisible warrants for the newspaper. He became the New York Times’ largest shareholder in 2015, according to Reuters.
