The Oregon Republican Committee passed a resolution last week condemning the 10 Republican House members who supported the impeachment of former President Trump for “betraying the Republican Party.
The resolution also said the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill was an act to frame supporters of President Trump and conservatives in the same vein as the Nazi congressional arson of 1933.
The Oregon Republican Committee passed the resolution on Jan. 19, the day before Biden was sworn in, the Washington Times reported Wednesday, Jan. 27.
The resolution reads, “There is growing evidence that the clashes on Capitol Hill were an act of framing President Trump’s supporters and all conservative Republicans. The motivation for this fraudulent act aimed at impeaching President Trump in order to advance a full-scale Democratic power grab is strikingly similar to the motivation for the Nazi Congress arson in 1933.”
The resolution then lists the names of 10 Republican House members who condemned the impeachment of President Trump along with Democrats and denounced them for “betraying the Republican Party.”
A statement released with the resolution by Republican Party Chairman Bill Currier of Oregon said any crackdown on those concerned about fraud in the 2020 election, or those who disapprove of Biden and his supporters, should not be supported by conservatives. Such actions should all be condemned and opposed by anyone who still believes in free speech and the right to peaceful assembly.
Riots on Capitol Hill during a joint session of the U.S. House and Senate to certify presidential candidates on Jan. 6 resulted in several deaths. House Democrats formally introduced a resolution of impeachment against Trump on January 11, accusing him of “inciting rebellion” in the incident. But the Capitol Hill riot happened before the end of Trump’s speech. Trump himself said there was nothing improper about his speech.
The impeachment case has now moved to the Senate and will be heard in early February. But there are already more than a percentage of senators opposing impeachment, and all sectors expect it to fail.
