Poll Shows Hong Kong People Don’t Trust Chinese Vaccines

A new poll shows that Hong Kong people trust the new coronavirus vaccine developed in China less than they trust vaccines in Europe and the United States, with only 30% of respondents saying they can accept the China Coxin vaccine.

The survey, conducted by the University of Hong Kong, shows that general acceptance of the vaccine in Hong Kong is low this month, with only 46% of people likely to be vaccinated. The HKU conducted a questionnaire survey of 1,000 people this month.

Hong Kong people have the lowest trust in the Coxin vaccine, with only 29.5% of respondents accepting it, compared to 56% for the German BioNTech vaccine and 35% for the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

The Hong Kong government has ordered 7.5 million doses of the Coxin vaccine and said the first batch will be sent to Hong Kong in January.

However, vaccine delivery has been delayed and the government says it is still waiting for the other side to provide more recent clinical information.

The spread of the New coronavirus outbreak to Hong Kong followed months of protests by Hong Kong people. Protesters fear Beijing is pushing the semi-autonomous city toward an authoritarian regime.

Leong Leong said, “I think there is only one, and that is openness and really letting science lead.”

On Monday, Hong Kong officially approved the use of the Fosun Pharma-BioNTech vaccine, which will be the first vaccine received in Hong Kong, with the first 1 million doses expected to arrive in the second half of February.

Hong Kong has already received a total of 22.5 million doses of the new crown vaccine from Fosun Pharma-BioNTech, Kexin and Oxford-AstraZeneca, Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said in December last year.

Fosun Pharma is the partner of German drugmaker BioNTech in Greater China for cold chain management, storage and distribution, and the vaccine is manufactured in Germany.

Hong Kong has largely controlled the New Coronavirus outbreak. In the past year, there were 10,283i cases of neo-crown in Hong Kong, with 174 deaths.
