Florida officials: happy to take over hosting the 2021 Olympics

With the global Epidemic in full swing and speculation that current Olympic host Japan may drop out, Florida’s treasurer told the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today that Florida would be happy to take over hosting.

Florida Treasurer Jimmy Patronis sent a letter to Olympic President Thomas Bach urging him to consider moving the 2021 Olympics from Tokyo, Japan, to the United States, “or more precisely, to Florida,” he said.

Patronis said, “There is still Time to deploy a site selection team to Florida as the media reports that The Japanese leadership has ‘privately’ concluded that they are very concerned that the 2021 Olympics may not be held due to the epidemic.”

The letter, signed by Padronis and made public on the Internet, cites the fact that Florida is pushing hard for vaccination programs, reopening its economy, holding various sporting events during the outbreak, and opening theme parks such as disney World in the state for business.

But Florida is in a tough spot during the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, with 25,000 people sickened and dead so far. The number of untreated people nationwide is approaching 420,000.

Patronis said, “Whatever precautions are needed, let’s figure it out and do it.”

The parties responsible for hosting the Tokyo Olympics insisted on the 22nd that the event would be held as scheduled between July 23 and August 8.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said, “I am determined to hold a safe and secure Tokyo Olympics as proof that humans can overcome the virus.”
