The official YouTube channel of the White House has seen a large number of “dislike” clicks under Joe Biden‘s videos. But many of these “dislike” clicks have been removed by YouTube. The company says it is part of a routine effort to eliminate what it considers “inauthentic evaluation participation.
Users of YouTube, the video exchange platform, have noticed that thousands of “dislike” (“stomp”) clicks from viewers have “disappeared” from under several Biden videos. “. Shortly after the first Biden videos were released on the official White House channel, the number of “dislike” clicks by large numbers of viewers under those videos was artificially and dramatically cut, and screenshots of the change in the numbers before and after were posted on social media.
The screenshots show that at least 16,000 “dislikes” were removed from at least three of the videos. Even after significant deletions and ongoing adjustments, as of 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 21, the channel had a total of about 14,000 “likes” under five videos, while the number of “dislikes” clicked still stood at nearly 60,000.
In response to a query about a screenshot of one of the videos, YouTube told The Epoch Times that they are monitoring user click-through ratings on the site to detect and remove user engagement that it deems to be spam. In this way, only those reviews that it considers genuine are retained. The company says this mechanism worked as it should have in the case of the Biden video.
In a message in 2019, the company said, “YouTube regularly removes any fake ‘like’, ‘dislike’ rating clicks from under your videos. ” “Data updates may take up to 48 hours.”
It’s unclear how YouTube distinguishes between real and fake rating clicks. The company did not respond to a request to tell further details.
YouTube and its owner, Google, have long faced allegations of political bias. The companies say their products are politically neutral, but employee accounts and leaked internal materials suggest that the companies do inject politics into their products.
According to a study by psychologist Robert Epstein, Google caused millions of votes to be diverted in the Nov. 3, 2020, presidential election by pushing its political agenda to users on only one side. Epstein assembled a team of more than seven hundred voters to monitor the results they received from Google search results, alerts, search suggestions and news feeds in the run-up to the election.
After the election, YouTube also blocked video content that claimed “fraud” and “election theft. These are allegations made by former President Donald Trump and many of his supporters. While the allegation is supported by a wealth of evidence, including hundreds of sworn witness statements and analysis of statistical anomalies, it has yet to be proven in court.
Google and YouTube are two of the most popular websites in the world, according to Alexa’s rankings. Politicians from both parties have expressed concern about the immense power wielded by Google and several other tech giants.
