Deaths from coronavirus infection in Germany exceed 50,000

Germany‘s Robert Koch Institute for health Surveillance (RKI) announced that the total number of deaths caused by coronavirus in Germany surpassed the 50,000 mark on Friday, January 22. German authorities have decided to extend the various current measures to combat the Epidemic until mid-February.

A total of 50,0642 deaths have been recorded at the Robert Koch Institute for Health Surveillance in Germany since the pandemic began. In the last 24 hours, there were 859 deaths.

This institute’s statistics include people who died directly from coronavirus disease and those who were previously ill and contracted coronavirus and whose cause of death could not be determined.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Germany has risen to more than 2.1 million since the outbreak began. Fearing the spread of a new, more contagious variant of the virus, Merkel’s government and 16 state – regional governments decided Tuesday to step up and extend anti-coronavirus measures until mid-February.

Restaurants, cafes, sports and cultural venues that have been closed for two and a half months will remain closed until at least Feb. 14. Mandatory wearing of medical or surgical masks in stores, subways, buses, trains and trams. Teleworking also becomes mandatory, at least until March 15, whenever possible.
