On January 22, the Texas Republican Party issued a statement warning that the cancellation of the U.S.-Canada “Archstone” pipeline project by new President Joe Biden would end U.S. energy autonomy and have a significant negative impact on the Texas economy.
The statement is titled “Alert from China Joe: Ending U.S. Energy Autonomy. The statement emphasized that the new president’s first major move in office would “destroy the livelihoods of thousands of citizens” and that “it is clear… Joe Biden will not lead America to greatness, but rather a reprise of Barack Obama”; the American people “need real leadership to keep America strong, economically growing and free and secure. Unfortunately, no one in the Oval Office possesses such leadership qualities.”
And at about 6 p.m. local Time on Jan. 21, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton released a sternly worded letter he had written back to the Department of Homeland Security.
The Department of Homeland Security sent a memo to Texas after the new president took office, asking the state to immediately and fully suspend deportations of illegal immigrants. In that letter, Paxton said that DHS completely violated the prior agreement between Texas and DHS, especially that DHS must notify the Texas government in advance before making any changes to the content of the agreement, rather than taking the initiative. At the same time, Paxton’s letter reminds DHS that in its prior agreement with Texas, DHS agreed that it would “prioritize protecting the interests of the citizens of the United States and existing communities by expediting the removal of illegal immigrants.
To that end, Paxton demanded that DHS immediately rescind the memorandum and respond, or else Texas would seek other ways to self-remedy.
When the @JoeBiden admin breaks the law, I take action. i have told @DHSgov to immediately rescind its illegal, unconscionable deportation freeze-or TX will sue.
As AG, I will always put Americans, Texans first-not dangerous aliens who must be deported! https://t.co/anW89QJiPP pic .twitter.com/ehsucOe6Ks
