U.S. media outlet Breitbart News reported Jan. 20 that White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters in a briefing that day that incoming President Joe Biden issued an executive order “ending the ban on Mujahideen, which was motivated by religious hatred and xenophobia.”
Breitbart News argues that the White House press secretary’s statement is a repeat of the same disinformation that Democrats have consistently spread on this issue for years, and that Biden has repeatedly thrown out this lie throughout the 2020 presidential election.
Breitbart News says Trump‘s travel ban was never aimed at Muslims and that the ban includes non-Muslim countries. in October 2017 the Supreme Court dropped a legal challenge to the travel ban and did not consider Trump’s travel ban to be a ban on Muslims.
Breitbart News fact-checked Biden’s claim last year and found that there is no “Muslim ban” and that there never was a “Muslim ban.”
What Democrats call the “Mujahideen ban” refers to an executive order issued by President Trump on Jan. 27, 2017, concerning seven countries previously identified by the Obama administration as particularly vulnerable to terrorist attacks, and banning tourism and immigration from those seven countries, in part because record-keeping within those countries did not meet requirements.
The seven countries covered by the ban are Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, which happen to be majority Muslim countries, but other Muslim countries, such as other Middle Eastern countries or large Muslim countries like Indonesia, are not affected by the ban.
The executive order was later updated or replaced by subsequent executive orders. In the second version of the ban, Iraq was removed, and in the third version, North Korea and Venezuela, two non-Muslim countries, were added, and in January 2020, several more countries were added to Trump’s travel ban, including non-Muslim countries, and in October 2017, the Supreme Court dropped its legal challenge to the travel ban. Yet, the “ban on Muslims” is still embedded in the minds of Democrats and left-wing journalists.
In December 2015, then-presidential candidate Donald Trump did propose shutting down Muslim access to the United States altogether until U.S. lawmakers figured out what was going on. What happened then was that radical Islamic terrorists had launched a brutal terrorist attack on Paris in November, and at least one terrorist was hiding among Syrian refugees. Mr. Trump’s December proposal was made in this context, but of course Trump has since abandoned the idea. But viewers should note that Senate Minority Leader Democrat Chuck Schume (D-N.Y.) is also considering stopping the admission of Syrian refugees, one reason being the security gap and another being the “Islamic State ” fighters are likely to infiltrate the United States.
In his Jan. 20 inaugural address, President Biden vowed to defeat “lies” with “truth. In recent weeks and months, we have learned a hard lesson. Truth and lies both exist. Power and profit can create lies.
As citizens, as Americans, and especially as leaders sworn to protect the Constitution and America, each of us has a duty and responsibility to defend the truth and defeat the lies, Breitbart News said.
