Experts confirm that the South African strain of COVID-19 is more infectious

Experts said on the 18th that the first mutant strain of the Chinese communist virus found in South Africa is more infectious than several previous strains, although there is no evidence that the South African variant is more deadly.

Salim Abdool Karim, an epidemiologist and co-chair of the Department of health‘s Scientific Committee, said the new variant is 50 percent more infectious.

He added, however, that there is no evidence that the new variant is more serious than the original virus if contracted.

Experts are based on the main clusters of infections across the country to collect information and analyze, and then to make conclusions about this dominant mutant strain of the virus in South Africa.

South Africa has more than 1.3 million infections, the highest number of cases on the African continent, and the highest number of deaths, with 37,105 people untreated.
