The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Friday that it will impose a new round of sanctions on six people, including National People’s Congress Standing Committee member Tam Yiu-chung and Police Commissioner for National Security Choi Chin-pang, in response to the arrest of 55 pan-democrats by Hong Kong police this month.
According to the sanctions list, in addition to Tam Yiu-chung and Tsoi Chin-pang, the sanctioned individuals also include Assistant Commissioner of Police (National Security) Kan Kai-yan and Kong Hok-lai, Deputy Director of the Office of National Security Sun Qing-nu, and Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Minister of the United Front Work Department You Quan.
