U.S. media are reporting that cybersecurity experts have confirmed that an April 2015 email sent by Ukrainian energy company Burisma to Hunter Biden, the second son of U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, is 100% authentic and mentions a meeting between Biden and Hunter’s business partner.
The Daily Caller, a U.S. news website, reports that the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) received the email from Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal attorney, on 28 March. Giuliani obtained a copy of Hunter’s laptop and then provided Robert Graham, founder of the Internet security company Errata Security, with a copy of the email and related data, requesting that the email be authenticated.
The email was sent to Hunter on April 17, 2015, by Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to the Brismar board, and revealed that Pozharskyi had met privately with then-Vice President Biden. The email was first uncovered by the New York Post in October of this year.
The paper mentioned that Gramm has been called a cybersecurity expert by the Washington Post, Associated Press, WIRED, Engadget and other media outlets. Graham told DCNF that he used a unique DKIM cryptographic signature from the email metadata to compare the email to the one from Pozshachschild, a method that “absolutely verifies the email from Gmail.
Using the DKIM signature in the email, Graham verified the sender, recipient, subject, date and body of the email with the private key on Google’s server, and found that nothing had changed from when it was originally sent, thus proving that the email was authentic and not a forgery.
The only way the email could have been forged, Graham said, was by hacking into the Google server to find the private key and using it to reverse the email’s DKIM signature, but there was no indication in the email interpretation data itself that the hacking was related to the email.
