General Motors (GM) unveiled a futuristic single-seat flying car at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on the 12th, describing the “flying Cadillac” as being able to take off and land vertically, allowing passengers to fly directly from the air at a maximum speed of nearly 90 kilometers per hour over traffic-filled city streets and rush from one building to another for meetings, “reimagining the future of personal transportation.
Mike Simcoe, GM’s design director, said in a video release that the “Flying Cadillac” is GM’s first foray into the field of aviation operations and is designed to address the juncture of “time is precious and convenience is everything”. It is also a fully autonomous electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) drone equipped with electric motors, a GM Ultium battery pack, an ultra-lightweight frame and four rotating wings, as well as air-to-air and air-to-ground communication capabilities.
