tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says the U.S. West Coast tech giant is now the “de facto arbiter of free speech.
Musk tweeted on Monday (Jan. 11) that “many people will be very upset with the de facto arbiter of free speech – the West Coast tech companies.”
After a tweet talking about “the need for big tech companies to tell the difference between hate speech and the speech they hate,” Musk responded, “It’s an important distinction.”
Musk’s related comments came after Twitter and other companies blocked Trump‘s account. Following the Jan. 6 congressional riots, Twitter announced it was permanently removing Trump’s Twitter number, and Apple and Google removed the pro-conservative Parler software from their App stores, which was subsequently removed from web hosting by Amazon. There has been much condemnation of the practice.
Parler CEO John Matze told Fox News that his company’s experience has confirmed that tech giants “have the power to destroy anyone.
