Left-wing D.C. mayor calls for ban on public rallies Park Service closes major roads until the 24th

Democratic Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser has asked U.S. federal authorities to hold off on approving public gatherings until after Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration.

At a news conference Monday morning, Bowser said she had asked the Department of the Interior to deny permission for any public gatherings until Jan. 24 (four days after Biden’s inauguration).

The U.S. National Park Service (US National Park Service) said it will temporarily close access to the Washington Monument (Washington Monument). The U.S. National Park Service is responsible for the management of the National Mall – a narrow strip of green space stretching from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial (Lincoln Memorial).

It said it will also temporarily close some roads and parking lots. While the current plan is to close until Jan. 24, the park service said it would extend the closure if necessary.

Bowser said she had written to President Donald Trump (Donald Trump), asking him to declare Washington in a state of “pre-disaster emergency” in order to draw up a more effective security plan for Biden’s inauguration next week.
