U.S. Defense Department Approves Mobilization of 15,000 National Guard for Biden’s Inauguration Security Tensions

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden will be inaugurated on January 20, due to the recent riots in Congress, the units of the Biden inauguration of security work are tense nerves, and the U.S. Department of Defense has authorized the deployment of up to 15,000 national troops around Washington, D.C., to support the security and law enforcement work before and after the Biden inauguration.

The National Guard Bureau (National Guard Bureau) director Daniel Hokanson said that 6,200 National Guard troops have been deployed to Washington after the Jan. 6 riots, and the Washington force will be raised to 10,000 on Saturday, with another 5,000 National Guard troops likely to be deployed before the inauguration.

Hockenson pointed out that the main task of the National Guard is to support the local police, Capitol Police and Secret Service officers at the level of communications, logistics and security, and has not yet decided whether to arm some or all of the National Guard or equip them with riot control equipment. Hokanson said, “My highest priority is not only to protect our citizens and property, but most importantly to protect our National Guard members as well.” It was emphasized that the members would not be left without proper equipment to protect themselves.

Hokanson also mentioned that the National Guard is always the first to go when it comes to natural disasters, but when it comes to “law enforcement,” the National Guard must wait until all law enforcement officers are “exhausted” before being deployed, and that deploying the National Guard to enforce the law and granting arrest authority is a “last resort” when the security situation is out of control.
