The former vice president of Xibei, Xueyou Chu, recently retweeted an article that made the famous restaurant brand “Xibei” “scolded” again for price increase on the hot search. In the article, the comment “After all, 95% of Weibo netizens earn less than 5,000 yuan (RMB, same below, about $770) per month”, Chu Xueyou commented “learned” and seemed to “agree” that you shouldn’t eat Xibei with a monthly salary of less than 5,000 yuan, triggering a public backlash.
The Daily Economic News reported that the article, written by Xiang Xiaotian, who has a microblog certified as a “Sina Finance columnist”, said that the price hike of Xibei and Seabed Loh had generated a large public opinion backlash because it had offended a large number of microbloggers, “after all, 95% of microbloggers earn less than 5,000 yuan a month ……”, which was retweeted by Chu Xueyou Retweeted. Although he has afterwards deleted this retweet, it still triggered a hot debate among netizens and once rushed to the top topics. Many netizens complained that Xibei’s small portion size and pricing were too expensive, with inflated egos and unequal pricing and service.
Xibei said that Chu Xueyou had left Xibei in September 2020, the microblog does not represent the position of Xibei. In response to the issue of Xibei price increase, Xibei said that the price of restaurant dishes is changing with the price of raw material costs, because Xibei is very strict in the selection of dishes, so there is indeed a very high cost behind the selection of materials, transportation, materials and so on.
