The number of new coronavirus infections in China continues to rise, and the number of confirmed cases of new coronavirus in a single day is the highest in five months.

Chinese health authorities said 103 new confirmed infections were reported on Jan. 10, the highest number of infections in a single day since July 30, when 127 cases were reported. The new infections were mainly concentrated in Hebei province, which is close to Beijing.

China’s National Health Commission informed on Monday (11) that 103 new cases were reported in 31 Chinese provinces and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps between 0000 and 2400 on the 10th, of which 18 were imported from outside China and 85 were local cases. Of the local cases, Hebei province accounts for 82 cases, and there are now a total of 265 confirmed cases in Hebei province.

The outbreak in Hebei Province is mainly concentrated in Shijiazhuang City, with 77 cases, 49 of which are asymptomatic infections. Two new cases were added in Xingtai.

China’s Health Times reported Monday that 18 of the new confirmed cases in Shijiazhuang on the 10th had been involved in a wedding banquet and were suspected to have been contracted in a cluster at a wedding.

Despite the recent rise in infections in China, the number of cases is still small compared to the peak of the outbreak last year. However, authorities are not taking it lightly and are taking swift steps to prevent a new wave of the outbreak from spreading across the country.

The city of Shijiazhuang is currently under lockdown. People and vehicles are not allowed to leave Shijiazhuang, and city buses and subways have been suspended.

The government of Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province, reported that as of 10:00 p.m. Monday, there were 20 new cases of asymptomatic infections in Suihua City, all in Wangkui County. The city has been closed to Wangkui County, and all neighborhoods and villages are closed.

The current wave of indigenous infections first appeared in the middle of last month in Dalian, Liaoning province. As winter approaches, more infections are starting to appear in the northern provinces of Heilongjiang, Hebei and Jilin.

Health authorities in Dalian said Monday that the local outbreak originated from infected foreign ships. A Dalian official told reporters that most of those infected were dock workers who handled a ship’s cargo from Russia.

Official statistics in China show a total of 87,536 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths so far, but many reports suggest that the actual number of confirmed cases and deaths in China is much higher than the official figures.

The current rise in new coronavirus infections in China comes as the country’s National Health Commission announced Monday that a World Health Organization team investigating the source of the new coronavirus will arrive in China this Thursday (14). But the health commission did not provide the team’s itinerary.

China has been accused of covering up the truth about the new crown outbreak that first broke out in Wuhan in late 2019. Critics say China failed to make timely response initiatives to the outbreak and allowed the new crown virus to spread globally.

According to internal documents obtained by The Associated Press, top Chinese officials had quietly ordered strict controls on all research related to the New Coronavirus disease and secretly searched for the origin of the virus. Beijing has distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to state-sponsored scientists to find the origin of the virus, but so far there have been very few reports of their research findings.

China initially forcefully refused to respond to international demands to investigate the origins of the new coronavirus, and then allowed the WHO to enter the country to investigate. An advance team of two WHO experts traveled to China last August, but never made it to Wuhan at all during their three-week trip to China.

More than 110 countries around the world, including the United States and Australia, backed an independent investigation into the origins of the new champion virus outbreak and the pandemic last May, leaving Beijing facing diplomatic isolation.
