Capitol Hill police officer dies by suicide Saturday after fighting back against Capitol storm

U.S. media outlet The Gateway Pundit reported Sunday (Jan. 10) that Capitol Hill police officer Howard Liebengood died by suicide.

Sources said Officer Liebengood committed suicide Saturday when he was not on duty. A statement released by the United States Capitol Police authorities (United States Capitol Police) following Officer Liebengood’s death said Officer Liebengood was one of the officers who fought back against the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol.

Although it has been widely reported that the officer died by suicide, the mainstream media continues to try to link the officer’s death to the protests at the U.S. Capitol.

Liebengood, who joined the Capitol Police in 2005 and was assigned to the Senate, was the son of former Senate Sergeant Howard S. Liebengood.

Liebengood’s death has exacerbated the turmoil in law enforcement at the Capitol following Wednesday’s riots. U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund resigned on Friday after being criticized for his poor handling of the Capitol protests.

House Chief of Police Paul Irving and Senate Chief of Police Michael Stenger both resigned as well. Current federal authorities are preparing for right-wing demonstrations against Joe Biden’s Jan. 20 inauguration.
