U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat, said there is “no question” that the U.S. House of Representatives should impeach President Trump after Wednesday’s (Jan. 6) attack on the Capitol Hill Complex. But he offered another plan, saying that once President Trump leaves office, it may be more appropriate and beneficial to go down the “judicial road” instead of conducting Senate hearings. And, he threatened, not just for Trump, judicial action “absolutely” applies to his eldest son and allies.
Speaking to CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday (Jan. 10), Manchin said, “There’s no question that he should be impeached.”
“But if we can’t do it – you have to make your job actually count. We have two paths.”
“We’re getting ready to form a new administration. If I’m Joe Biden, I want to screw my administration together and give Americans the confidence that we can rule ourselves and be a beacon of light to the entire country and the world.”
If the House approves articles of impeachment this week, the earliest date the Senate could bring up the lawsuit for a hearing is Jan. 20, according to The Washington Examiner. By then, Joe Biden is expected to carry out the 46th inauguration of the U.S. president.
Manchin claimed that “there is no common sense” in holding Senate hearings while Biden works to form a new administration. As a result, he offered two plans.
“There is no common sense that on inauguration day we will officially begin (the hearings),” Manchin said.
“I would hope that people would consider two paths: the political path and the judicial path.”
“I think the judicial path will probably give us the best results and stop this kind of stupidity within politics, the kind of dangerous insidious rhetoric that you know.” “People have to understand: your words have consequences. We see it at the most dangerous level.”
Manchin seemed to mean that impeachment would trigger some of the most dangerous consequences.
“We are talking about the rule of law.” Manchin continued. “That’s our cornerstone. That means no one is above the law.”
“If people are dead and we know they are dead, along with all the damage and rioting that has been done to our own Capitol, then somebody has to be held accountable for that.”
“I think that would be a better position to take, as opposed to taking a political route.”
Manchin added that in addition to the president himself, action should “absolutely” be taken against members of Trump’s inner circle who “played a role” in inciting Wednesday’s (Jan. 6) violence, including attorney Rudy Giuliani Trump’s oldest son Donald Trump Jr. and Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks (R-Ala.).
On Jan. 6, rioters mingled with protesters to attack and break into the U.S. Capitol, shocking the world.
Evidence is surfacing that the mob that attacked Congress was a member of the organized far-left violent group ANTIFA, and not a Trump supporter.
And, in a video address on January 7, President Trump made clear that upon learning of the violent attack on Congress, he “immediately deployed the National Guard and federal law enforcement to protect the building and evict the intruders.”
Although the riots on Capitol Hill had nothing to do with Trump or peaceful Trump supporters, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) insisted that the House initiate impeachment of President Trump, who is only 10 days into his term, and hold him “accountable for inciting the riots. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer (Chuck Schumer) also supported the move, and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said the impeachment to Pelosi and Schumer to do.
However, the impeachment intention was resisted by House Republicans, and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said there was no time to hold hearings for impeachment.
Manchin is proposing the Democrats’ latest plan.
