3 dead, 4 wounded! Chinese student shot dead in the head at the University of Chicago in an indiscriminate shooting by a crazed gunman

The 32-year-old African-American gunman, Jason Nightengale, opened fire indiscriminately from south to north, killing three people and injuring four in just a few hours, including Yiran Fan, a fourth-year doctoral student in economics and finance at the University of Chicago.

The Chicago Police Department said on the 10th, after a preliminary investigation, the gunman has a number of previous convictions, 8 had posted a video on Facebook, he waved a gun in the video, talking about random killings, and even threatened “I want to let blow up the whole community.

According to records, the horrific serial killings broke out at 1:50 p.m. on the 9th, when PhD student Fan Yiran of the University of Chicago was shot in the head and killed by a gunman in his car parked in the parking lot of his apartment.

Ten minutes later, the gunman appeared in the lobby of an apartment building at 4900 Southeast End Street. The concierge of the apartment tried to prevent the suspect from entering the building, but the gunman continued to break in and turned to shoot the concierge, who was 46 years old and died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

The other 77-year-old woman who was in the apartment building mailbox to get the mail was also shot by the assailant and is still in critical condition as of the 10th.

At 2:45 on the same day, Netengel entered an apartment building at 5500 Southeast End Street through the back door, took the elevator to the 19th floor, pointed the gun at a male acquaintance, the gunman asked him to hand over the keys to his car, succeeded and then went downstairs and drove the male’s car away.

At about 3 p.m., Nettengale appeared at a grocery store near 9300 S. Halsted St. and shot a 20-year-old man in the head as soon as he entered the store.

The 81-year-old woman who was also in the grocery store was shot in the back and neck, and was rushed to the hospital, but was not out of danger.

Then, at about 4 p.m., Nettengale shot a 15-year-old girl in the passenger seat in the head near the 10300 block of South Hospitaller Street, randomly shooting at a passing car in critical condition.

The gunman then returned to the grocery store at 9300 and aimed his gun at the police officers who were already at the scene of the shooting, fortunately not hitting any of the officers.

At 5:35 p.m., the gunman, who had already shot two innocent people on the South Side, showed up in Evanston, immediately north of Chicago, and entered the local IHOP restaurant, as well as the CVS pharmacy chain next to it, where the suspect pinned a woman in the IHOP restaurant and shot her before fleeing in his car.

The police were in hot pursuit and finally stopped in a nearby parking lot, where a gun battle broke out and the shooter was killed by police.

As of the afternoon of the 10th, in addition to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business announcement Fan Yiran unfortunately was shot and killed by the assailants, the other two dead and four wounded identity is still unclear.

The University of Chicago said Fan Yiran was a fourth-year doctoral student in economics and finance from China. He was a bright and talented student who was respected by his classmates and loved by all who knew him.

As far as we know, Fan Yiran graduated from Peking University in 2012, and then went to Cambridge University for research before attending the University of Chicago in 2014.
