Overlord cold wave reappears overnight freezing in Bohai Bay

Starting from January 7, the Great Cold Wave hit Bohai Bay, freezing over a dozen nautical miles of coastal waters overnight. This is believed to be the worst sea ice for this time of year in 30 years.

Severe sea ice has frozen off the coast of Shandong Province due to a cold wave and strong winds, local media reported. The Bohai Sea and the northern coast of the Yellow Sea have seen the worst sea ice in nearly 30 years. “The maximum outer line of floating ice in the Liaodong Bay was 53 nautical miles on Monday, and has reached 17 nautical miles in the Bohai Bay, 16 nautical miles in the Laizhou Bay and 19 nautical miles in the northern Yellow Sea,” the report said.

According to the report, the large area of sea ice will affect the normal operation of ships, drilling platforms and oil production platforms in the nearby waters, and may affect aquaculture in Shandong offshore.
