The number of new confirmed cases of pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) in Wuhan, Hebei Province, China, continues to rise, with 33 new local cases today (8) and a total of 127 local cases. In response, the local government announced that people in Shijiazhuang and Xingtai will not leave the city unless necessary, and the operation of long-distance road passenger vehicles will be suspended.
As of 10:00 on January 8, there were 127 confirmed local cases in Hebei province (118 in Shijiazhuang and 9 in Xingtai) and 183 asymptomatic cases under medical observation (177 in Shijiazhuang and 6 in Xingtai), according to Chinese media reports. In response, Xu Jianpei, vice governor of the Hebei provincial government, said Shijiazhuang and Xingtai personnel, non-essential not to leave the city. “Strengthen traffic control, Shijiazhuang, Xingtai long-distance road passenger vehicles to stop operating. Due to the protection of epidemic prevention and control, urban operation, production and life, epidemic prevention materials transport and other reasons must enter and exit the city’s vehicles, with a valid pass documents in and out.”
An Zhongqi, executive deputy director of the Hebei Provincial Public Security Department, said that all people going in and out of Shijiazhuang and Xingtai are advised to return, and people in other areas are not necessary to enter Beijing, “commuters around Beijing with 72-hour negative nucleic acid test certificate and other relevant certificates can pass; remind the residents of Hebei not necessary to enter Beijing, not necessary not to leave the province”.
