Hong Kong searches and arrests pro-democracy activists. Taiwan condemns the terrorist acts of the Hong Kong Communist Party.

On January 6, the Hong Kong police launched a massive search and arrest of 53 pan-democrats. Taiwan condemns the terrorist acts of the Chinese Communist Party and the Hong Kong government, pointing out that the Chinese Communist Party has violated the promise of “one country, two systems” and deprived Hong Kong people of their democratic freedom.

Hong Kong police arrested more than 50 pan-democrats in the morning of the 6th, and Hong Kong’s top brass confirmed the arrest of 53 pan-democrats, claiming that they were “suspected of organizing or participating in the ’35+’ primary election of the Legislative Council with the intention of forcing the Chief Executive to step down and paralyzing the SAR government, in violation of the national security law of Hong Kong for the crime of subversion of state power”.

In this regard, the executive dean of the Republic of China Su Zhenchang said in an interview, we see that Taiwan today has sovereignty is very safe, and we also see that in the past, the Chinese Communist Party promised Hong Kong “one country, two systems” 50 years unchanged, the horse runs and dances as usual, the result has become so horrible, even the pursuit of the most basic democracy, freedom, but also to be arrested and imprisoned. “Everyone will know how important it is for Taiwan to adhere to its national sovereignty, but we also care very much about Hong Kong and care for Hong Kong people.”

Su said he hoped that the Chinese Communist Party should adhere to the “one country, two systems” commitment to Hong Kong, for the pursuit of universal values of democracy and freedom should not be malicious suppression, should not use terrorist tactics, which will only make the people more resentful, so that the world more criticism of the Chinese Communist Party.

Taiwan legislator Wang Dingyu said that the Chinese Communist Party and the Hong Kong government are conducting a major manhunt in Hong Kong today, “This is a sad and regrettable tragedy, the Chinese Communist Party is using its maximum power to prove that it is a dictatorial regime, these Hong Kong people participate in democratic activities to raise their voices, in the world of free democracy and the rule of law, no one will be a criminal. But these democrats are being arrested and oppressed one by one in Hong Kong.”

Wang Dingyu pointed out that for Hong Kong, the people of Hong Kong have lost their freedom and democracy, and now even their judicial independence has been lost. When the Chinese Communist Party itself smashed the window of “one country, two systems” in Hong Kong, the so-called “one country, two systems” is no longer attractive to Taiwan. He said that Taiwan must be careful in the face of the Chinese Communist Party’s advances and foolishness, and that 23.6 million Taiwanese must cherish their present free and democratic life. “We must give our friends in Hong Kong the greatest assistance and protect Taiwan’s democratic way of life under the rule of law.”

Foreign Minister Wu Chiu-sup tweeted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the mass search and arrest in Hong Kong deeply shocked all people who cherish freedom. Taiwan strongly condemns such arrests and vows to continue to speak out in defense of the rights of Hong Kong’s democrats. He stressed that the free world must unite to counter authoritarianism: there must be no more room for ambiguity and ambiguity!

The Land Commission said that for the Hong Kong side’s early morning raid and mass arrests of Hong Kong democrats, “we and the international community share the shock and condemn any bullying acts that oppress democracy and human rights.”

“The Commission said that the “Hong Kong version of the National Security Law, which readily uses the charge of ‘subversion of state power’ to crack down on democrats,” not only highlights the fact that the protection of Hong Kong people’s rights under the Hong Kong Basic Law is no more than a piece of paper, but also that its vicious acts have turned Hong Kong from the “Pearl of the Orient” into a shocking “purgatory of the Orient.

The Land Commission pointed out that if Hong Kong’s democracy and freedom continue to decline, and affect its status as an international financial center, it will not do mainland China any good. It called on the relevant parties to exercise prudence and restraint, or else the consequences will backfire.

Hong Kong police arrested the pan-democrats, Taiwan’s political parties condemned the Communist Party of Hong Kong
The DPP’s statement said that it is unthinkable to commit the crime of “subversion of state” just because it organizes its own primary election, not only in Taiwan, but also in most countries in the world, and that the Chinese Communist authorities have gone to all lengths to gain full control of Hong Kong. The Chinese Communist Party and the Hong Kong government have joined hands to suppress pro-democracy activists and carry out “preventive arrests” on the grounds of “national security”, treating democracy and human rights as nothing at all. The DPP pointed out that the mass arrests were carried out on the grounds of “national security”.

The DPP pointed out that the mass arrest of 50 people, including former legislator Yang Yueqiao and pro-democracy primary election promoter Dai Yaoting, is to stifle the call for democracy with red terror. The DPP demands that the Chinese Communist Party and the Hong Kong government must immediately stop any totalitarian acts of repression against civil society and allow Hong Kong’s civil society to return to its original state of freedom and rule of law free from authoritarian coercion. The DPP will support the government’s continuous efforts to strengthen support for Hong Kong, and calls on the community to continue to pay attention to the developments in Hong Kong.

Taiwan’s Ki Progressive Party issued a statement severely condemning the Chinese Communist Party and the Hong Kong government for joining hands to deprive Hong Kong people of their right to participate in politics. “The Hong Kong government’s indiscriminate arrest of the pro-democracy camp is a challenge to every Hong Kong people’s right to live, and is by no means a matter for the pro-democracy camp alone.” Hong Kong people can never know when, where and when they will be the next to violate the “National Security Law”, and call on Hong Kong people to show their solidarity with the arrested democrats.

Taiwan Foundation mentioned that the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law once again proves that the so-called “one country, two systems” is a complete scam. The only promise that the Chinese Communist Party does not skip is that their promises will always skip. January just happens to be the second anniversary of Xi Jinping‘s proposal of “one country, two systems” for Taiwan, and the people of Taiwan should take Hong Kong as a warning that if anyone supports the “one country, two systems” proposal for Taiwan, that person is Taiwan’s version of Carrie Lam.

The Kuomintang said that the Hong Kong police arrested more than 50 people early on the morning of the 6th on suspicion of violating the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law, and if the Hong Kong government’s law enforcement will cause a chilling effect and substantially limit the consequences of the democratic development of Hong Kong society, the Kuomintang is not happy. The KMT calls on Beijing and the Hong Kong government to be particularly cautious and accommodating in dealing with Hong Kong’s democracy and freedom, so as to avoid limiting or undermining the future development of Hong Kong’s freedom and democracy.

The KMT believes that a stable competition among political parties will make Hong Kong society freer and more dynamic. If we restrict Hong Kong people’s freedom of expression and the ideal of establishing a stable political party system just because the administration may be subject to strong monitoring, we are not only overreacting, but also losing more than we gain.
