The new members of the U.S. Congress were sworn in today, and Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi received 216 votes in favor of her over Republican Congressman McCarthy’s 209 votes, and Pelosi was re-elected as Speaker by a very small margin.

The new Congress is left with 222 seats of the House of Representatives, while the Republican Party has increased to 211 seats.
But because some Democratic members of Congress ran for office, Pelosi (Nancy Pelosi) received 216 votes today, narrowly beating her Republican opponent Kevin McCarthy’s 209 votes.
