More than a dozen Republican U.S. senators, including Ted Cruz, will challenge the results of this presidential election in Congress.
Eleven Republican senators, including U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), issued a statement Saturday (Jan. 2) saying they plan to reject electoral votes from swing states when Congress tallies the Electoral College next week and are calling for the urgent creation of a commission to investigate election fraud.
In addition to Cruz, the other 10 participants in the cosponsorship are Republican freshmen senators who plan to be sworn in as new members of Congress Sunday, including Ron Johnson and John Kennedy, among others.
Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Texas) announced earlier this week that he will challenge the election results when the Electoral College votes are tallied in Congress next week, and several Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives plan to protest the Electoral College vote results.
