The United States uses the tariff knife again! Tariff increases on EU aircraft parts, wine and other products

The U.S. Trump administration has raised tariffs again on a number of products including wine and aircraft parts from the European Union, the latest development in a dispute between the U.S. and Europe over government subsidies received by aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus.

The U.S. Trade Representative’s Office (USTR) said in a statement that it will impose tariffs on aircraft manufacturing parts, specific non-sparkling wines, cognacs and other cognacs from France and Germany.

The move comes after the European Union imposed tariffs on about $4 billion in U.S. imports after gaining approval from the World Trade Organization (WTO) in November.

A year ago, the U.S. also imposed tariffs on about $7.5 billion worth of EU and U.K. imports, including French wine and Scotch whisky, under WTO authorization.

The U.S. Trade Representative’s Office said on the 30th that some of the tariffs on EU products were raised because the EU was using a period that affected a wider range of products than the original, so the EU had to take some measures to make up for this unfair practice.
