Brazil’s 2019 coronavirus (CCA virus) disease epidemic worsened, the number of confirmed cases and deaths in the state of São Paulo in December increased by 68% and 57%, respectively, and the state government intends to adopt stricter epidemic prevention from tomorrow, but the state’s 20 municipalities do not shake off the state government’s regulations, forming each blowing its own tone.
The São Paulo state government issued a statement today pointing out that there are currently more than 1,452,000 confirmed cases and nearly 47,000 deaths in the state; the occupancy rate of intensive care unit beds in Grande São Paulo and the state reached 65.2% and 61.4%, respectively.
As during Christmas, the entire state of São Paulo will be under stricter epidemic prevention measures starting tomorrow, with only basic services such as pharmacies, markets, bakeries, gas stations, laundries, mass transit and hotels operating during the New Year (January 1-3, 2021).
The governments of the coastal cities of Santos, São Vicente and Guarujá, which attract the most New Year’s visitors in the state of São Paulo, have decided to close their beaches during the New Year in order to avoid clusters.
However, at least 20 municipalities have indicated that they do not intend to comply with the state government’s regulations. Marco Vinholi, director of regional development for the state of São Paulo, said the municipalities will be notified by the Ministry of Justice to respond to violations of the regulations.
