Taiwan’s first case of overseas importation of the new crown variant of the virus, foreigners will be suspended from entering next year

Taiwan‘s Central Epidemic Command Center announced Wednesday (Dec. 30) that the first case of the British New Coronavirus has emerged, and the infected person is a male in his late teens who took a flight back to Taiwan from the U.K. The flight had 114 passengers, and after testing, a total of three people were diagnosed with the New Coronavirus.

The epidemic commander, Minister of health and Welfare Chen Shizhong said that the confirmed teenager who returned to Taiwan from the UK with a fever was confirmed to be the British New Coronavirus after genetic matching, and the patient is currently being treated in the hospital and still has some symptoms, but it is not serious.

Minister Chen Shih-chung also pointed out that in response to this development, entry restrictions and post-entry quarantine measures will be stricter from January 1 next year, including the suspension of connecting flights and restrictions on the entry of non-nationals.

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center also said that 20 million doses of the new crown vaccine have been procured and are expected to be available in March next year.
