Social network service provider Twitter said today that when President Donald Trump leaves office on January 20, 2021, Twitter will not automatically transfer the millions of followers of the original official government account to the incoming Biden administration, but will instead offer users the option of whether to continue to follow it.
This step by Twitter will affect official government accounts that change hands at the transition between the old and new presidents, such as @WhiteHouse, which represents the White House, and @POTUS, which represents the President of the United States.
However, Twitter’s decision will not affect Trump’s personal account. Trump often tweets to his 88 million followers through his personal @realDonaldTrump account.
According to Twitter, the transition between the old and new administrations also affects the Vice President’s account @VP, the First Lady’s account @FLOTUS, the White House spokesperson’s account @PressSec, the Cabinet’s account @Cabinet and the White House’s Hispanic account @LaCaSaBlanca.
