Pompeo Criticizes U.S. Media’s Greed to Help Chinese Communist Narrative – Secretary of State: In Today’s World, the Chinese Communist Party Is a Real Existential Threat Challenge

On Friday (Dec. 18), U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticized major U.S. media outlets for bending over backwards to the Chinese Communist Party for profit, not only underreporting its violations but, worse, sometimes aiding its propaganda. Pompeo also cited the Chinese Communist Party as a challenge that poses a real existential threat.

Speaking Friday on “The Mark Levin Show,” a well-known conservative radio program, Pompeo said the public has become acutely aware of all the risks it faces from China’s Communist Party as a direct result of the good work President Trump and his team have put together.

“Some of them (the public) have lost their jobs because Chinese companies stole their software and intellectual property. Some of them see it (the phenomenon of Chinese Communist infiltration) in their schools, they see some Chinese students behaving in a way that is totally inconsistent with others who come to the U.S. to study.” He said.

Pompeo also mentioned the Chinese Communist Party’s concealment of the outbreak. He said everyone is still suffering from this (Chinese Communist) virus and the world can now see the Chinese Communist Party covering up the virus epidemic coming out of Wuhan and dumping the blame. “Now we are all suffering. Many people have lost their lives and there is a huge economic impact on the world.” He said.

The New York Times obtained thousands of confidential instructions from the Chinese Communist government and other documents revealing that during the outbreak, the Internet Information Office helped the Communist authorities shape online public opinion. The New York Times reported that the Communist Party’s Internet Information Office began controlling information about the outbreak in the first week of January. A directive from the agency asked news sites to use only the government’s caliber and not to compare the outbreak to the deadly SARS outbreak in China and elsewhere in 2002, even though the World health Organization had pointed out the similarities.

Pompeo: U.S. Media Subjected to Chinese Communist Party Due to Interests Helped Chinese Communist Party Speak Out

Host Levin picked up on that, but the Trump administration is hardly helped by the U.S. media’s coverage of the Chinese Communist Party’s concealment of the epidemic.

Pompeo said that in many cases, you will see the U.S. media being constrained by the Chinese Communist Party because of their interests.

“The media giants have a business [in China], right? China has 1.4 billion people and they want to serve that market, so they want to sell movies or streaming products there, so they often bow down on bended knee (to the Chinese Communist Party).” The secretary of state said, “So unfortunately, that means that their news outlets are also often reluctant to report on these Chinese (Communist Party of China) violations; and worse, sometimes they (the U.S. media) actually promote China (the Communist Party of China). That’s the worst.”

Levine cited the U.S. media’s approach to reporting on the outbreak, where the media not only denied but argued that it was racist when President Trump, the Secretary of State and others talked about the Wuhan virus (CCP virus) in China. The media then blamed the president for every death caused by the virus. He asked Pompeo if he was shocked by this.

Pompeo replied that it was the same narrative as that of General Secretary Xi Jinping, the (CCP) Foreign Minister, the People’s Daily and the Global Times. He said it was the Chinese (Communist Party) narrative, similar to the way the Communist Party had promoted the news that U.S. soldiers had brought the virus, which was false propaganda.

“When our media reported this information (CCP disinformation), when our media refused to report the facts until today, the Chinese Communist Party still did not allow an investigation into the origin of the virus in Wuhan.” He said.

“Not long ago, I read the CNN article and they said oh my God, it looks like the Chinese (Beijing government) may have lied and said this is breaking news. It’s amazing to see a major media outlet acting in that way, but unfortunately it (the U.S. media) lied to the American people and failed to provide them (with) the facts, the vital information for them to protect Freedom, which is the natural act of freedom, and Liberty, which is the right to freedom with legal limitations.” Pompeo said.

Media Coverage of Chinese Communist Terror Inadequate

The moderator spoke about the communist regime in China that is building concentration camps involving murder, torture, sterilization, abortion, rape, slave labor and the most horrific acts imaginable, as well as reports that more journalists are being arrested and jailed in China. But I have not seen much coverage of this in the major media.

Pompeo responded that the concentration camps are something that happened in western China. “I think it’s a very, very fair characterization that this is underreported in the media. Nobody said anything about it until President Trump and our team started learning about what was going on there. We already knew, the world knew, but no leaders were prepared to talk about what was actually happening there.” He said.

“We need (this kind of coverage) – this story is important because we know the history. We know that when authoritarian regimes act in this way and treat people who are different from them, we know that this type of thing (persecution) can happen.” He said.

Pompeo went on to say that the U.S. has an obligation to ensure that these tyrannies are identified and labeled, and that every effort is made to ensure that at least U.S. companies are not involved in furthering such (persecution) activities.

Referring to news reports of possible Russian hacking of various U.S. government departments, Pompeo said, “Vladimir Putin still poses a real risk to those who love freedom, and we have to make sure we’re prepared for everyone. (But) today, I would rank China (the Chinese Communist Party) as a challenge that poses a real existential threat.”
