United Airlines Flight 591 from Orlando to Los Angeles had a medical emergency on the 14th, when a passenger suffered a heart attack during the flight, causing the flight to make an emergency landing in New Orleans. Although passengers on the same flight could have continued their journey on other flights, they all agreed to stay on the original flight, which arrived several hours late at Los Angeles International Airport. The man was later taken to the hospital and died.
A passenger on the same flight tweeted on the 16th that she was only three rows from the dead passenger’s seat, so she could clearly hear the conversation between the family and the crew. The wife said her husband had been experiencing suspected symptoms of a new crown for a week, including loss of smell and taste, “but the flight attendants just used wet paper towels to clean up his blood and secretions.
United Airlines issued a statement later, the incident was only able to determine that the passenger was in cardiac arrest, so they asked other passengers if they wanted to change flights, but the passengers all chose to stay on the same flight. United Airlines said the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had contacted them and they provided the necessary information for the CDC to follow up with other passengers to see if they were at risk of infection.
United Airlines emphasized that to ensure the health of passengers and aircrew, everyone must wear a mask and fill out a Ready-to-Fly checklist before boarding to clarify whether a new crown has been diagnosed or a related illness has appeared in the past 14 days.
