Prominent Chinese human rights lawyer Tang Jitian released by police on Dec. 11

Tang Jitian, a prominent human rights lawyer, was released on December 11, 2020, after being taken away by police on December 9, 2020.

Tang, 52, a native of Dunhua, Jilin Province, is a prominent human rights lawyer and social activist who has defended the rights of victims of illegal land expropriation, AIDS victims, Falun Gong believers, freedom of expression, civil and political rights, and other vulnerable groups, and has been politically persecuted for his activities. In 2010, Tang was suspended from his lawyer’s license by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice for “disrupting court discipline”. Since then, he has continued to be active in the field of human rights.
