Raphael Warnock is one of two Democrats running for the U.S. Senate in the Jan. 5 Georgia Senate runoff. In a debate on Sunday (Dec. 6), he again side-stepped Marxism and socialism.
Warnock’s opponent in the senatorial runoff is Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler. During the December 6 debate, Loeffler repeatedly called Warnock a “radical libertarian” and asked him “whether he would abandon socialism”.
“In your writings and your teachings, you repeatedly praise Marxism and income redistribution, Leffler said, “would you abandon socialism and Marxism here and now, for the sake of all Georgians?
Warnock did not give a direct answer, saying only that he “believes in our free enterprise system” and that “we will also have a financial literacy center to teach people how to repair their credit, how to start a business, how to buy a home, and how to participate in this free enterprise system.
In addition, Warnock was asked twice whether he would support “expanding” the Supreme Court, but he did not give a direct answer, turning instead to health care.
Warnock is a long-time supporter of the “Black Lives Matter” (BLM) movement, whose political positions seek reform of the judicial system, including an end to mass incarceration.
On November 11, Republican Federal Senator Marco Rubio visited the Cobb County Republican Party headquarters in Atlanta to campaign for Leffler and another Republican senator, David Perdue. He revealed at the time that 25 years ago, as a young pastor, Warnock attended an event at his church to invite Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and publicly praised Castro.
Rubio also emphasized the horrors of socialism and used his background as a second-generation Cuban-American to illustrate that countless Cubans who fled across the sea to the United States, risking even being swallowed by sharks, to escape communist tyranny never wanted to see the land of the free transformed into a socialist country.
On December 6, Cao Changqing, a famous political commentator, tweeted that Warnock was a “clear-cut communist” who had invited Castro to give an “anti-American speech” at his church and had given a “truth-telling award” to Jeremiah Wright, a communist who called the U.S. “deserving” of the 9/11 attacks, and a “communist who wants to subvert the United States.
During the debate with Warnock, Leffler was asked if he supported President Trump to win the election. Leffler said, “It is very clear that there is a problem (with fraud) in this election. She has called for an investigation into voter fraud in Georgia.
President Trump has the authority to take all legal action,” Leffler said, “and we have to make sure that we have a fair election process that counts every legal vote and excludes all illegal votes,” and “that’s what I’m going to continue to fight for, to make sure that Georgians know that everything in this election is about the future of our country.
